Caller ID Doesn't Work Like it did 10 Years Ago

Remember when Caller ID first came out? I sure do. It was more than a decade ago, and I remember being so impressed! Unlike today, Caller ID was once an extremely reliable way to find out the owner of a phone number before picking up the phone, or when checking missed calls. In fact, it seemed to be very rare to receive phone calls that would display an accurate Caller ID!

Things have changed - with the widespread adoption of cellular technology, more phones than ever are incompatible with Caller ID. In fact, In my personal experience, caller ID no longer works for the majority of phone calls. It's not just cell phones that are causing the demise of CID. New telephone technologies such as VOIP, and even forwarding services like Grandcentral, all provide private unlisted numbers to their customers, just like the cell phone carriers.
